Etta James, (Jan. 25, 1938 – Jan. 20, 2012), a legendary American singer known for her powerful voice and versatility across blues, jazz, and R&B.  During her career, Etta received several Grammy Awards and was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame solidifying her status as an iconic figure in music. Widely recognized as one of the most dynamic singers in music history.  Her legacy continues to inspire artists, keeping her influence alive in modern music. The timeless classic “At Last, in particular, became her signature piece and remains a timeless classic.

The intersection of highways 61 and 49 in Clarksdale, MS. Home of many Blues music legends including Blues luminaries as Robert Johnson, Big Jack Johnson, Ike Turner, Muddy Waters, Sam Cooke and more.

OKEH RECORDS

ONE OF THE EARLIEST LABELS TO RECORD BLACK MUSIC. IN 1920, THE LABEL LAUNCHED THE RACE MUSIC RECORDING INDUSTRY. THE RECORDING OF MAMIE SMITH'S “CRAZY BLUES,” A RECORD THAT SOLD MORE THAN A MILLION COPIES AND ILLUSTRATED THE COMMERCIAL POTENTIAL OF AFRICAN AMERICAN MUSIC.

W.C HANDY

W.C. Handy, often called the "Father of the Blues," transformed the soundscape of American music by popularizing blues music in the early 20th century. His groundbreaking compositions, such as "St. Louis Blues" and "Memphis Blues," captured the raw emotion and unique rhythms of African American musical traditions, forever changing the landscape of popular music.
